Will-o’-the-wisp Love

Through many loves
and some marriages
lasting love eluded him,
like a bird fleeing a feline,
like a felon fleeing a fed.

Just when it seemed he’d
found true and lasting love,
like a mirage sooner or
later it had vanished.

Steadfastly he tried again
and again and again
but like a will-o’-the-wisp
it faded away and vanished
in the sobering day of
yet another forlorn love.

A Zen Master’s Observation

Ikkyu wrote something about how there was a skeleton
propping up the body of the woman you are fondling.
I found that a little too real, unsettling thought,
not that I’m fondling any women in my dwindling days
but I find it close to macabre to think of a woman
as just flesh propped up by bones.
Though I have to concur, Ikkyu certainly made a point
about the impermanence of humans, love and life.

Some Have It, Some Don’t

Vic lacked the Midas touch
unlike his friend, Benny.
Benny had the knack
for making money easily.
Everything he tried
became successful and
profitable.

Vic couldn’t succeeded
at anything he tried
and went bankrupt
over and over like a
natural born loser.

Maybe people like
Benny have more
luck than others who
try the same things
and try them the same
ways but fail miserably.

Whatever the case, it’s
unfortunate that some
have it and some don’t.

Tripwire Lunacy

A wife and a mother, she lost her mind when Trump got elected.
She screamed and acted like a lunatic and ran into a wall
while her husband in the background told her to calm down.

I wondered how he could have married a woman so unhinged
and how long their marriage would last after she acted like a lunatic.

Her craziness didn’t bode well for him. She probably was given
to over reactions about other things.

And I suspect the day would come when she’d blow up too much
and tax her husband’s patience beyond any human’s limits.

And he’d finally reach his breaking point and get the hell
away from his wife’s tripwire lunacy.

Self Obsessed

She felt she was more important
that the rest of us.

She always paraded around in
fancy clothes.

She never spoke to us,
like a first class snob.

I wondered what nonsense made
her so self-obsessed.

I wonder what nonsense makes
people act like her.

Imagine going through life thinking
you’re better than others.

Imagine how limited a life
that would be.

And I wonder if she ever got married
and woe to her husband if she did.

The F Word

She said she was all for the F word.
That was fine with me.
I don’t care about swears,
but why didn’t she spell or say
it out if she was fine with it.
Maybe she really had some
residual resistance to it and
she wanted to seem cool.
I didn’t care either way
after all the F word is
just an S word.

The Loss of a Love

She gets up every morning
dresses and goes to work teary-eyed.

She sees her work as work therapy
to get over the love she threw away

with a dishonest player she met on Facebook,
who had her and dumped her

after she left her husband of 20 years for him.
She tried to get back with her husband

but he wasn’t having any of it.
She lost his love and trust forever.

And there’s no chance of her husband
after taking her back.

He cannot forget or forgive her
for exhibiting herself on Facebook,

casting herself and her wares into the sea of men
to lure their attentions and comments into her page,

disrespecting and disgracing her loving husband, like
a virtueless, attention seeking single woman.

Maybe the loss, the hard knock, will benefit her,
and she’ll make better choices with the next man in her life.

After all everybody makes mistakes
and some people become better because of them.

The Song Send Me an Angel

Remembering and thinking
about the great song
Send Me an Angel.

Who couldn’t use
having an angel sent to them?

Imagine if you could request
angelic assistance when you
desperately needed some
Divine intervention.

For example, the love of your
life has just passed away
and you’re at the lowest
point of your life and
you request desperately
needed help.

Then the heavens part.
An angel drops down
into your life and
offers you solace and
tells you something like
he or she is in a better
place and not dead in
the glorious afterlife.

And that you and your
significant other will be
together again one day.

You sigh happily and
feel some Divine energy
stream out of the angel
and into you. And you
feel the greatest peace
and happiness of your life.

a trip to communist China

a youtube influencer decided to take a trip to china
as an american, he felt some fear at going
into communist enemy territory
a wrong word mistaken for political slander
might land him in a chinese slammer

to his surprise he didn’t suffer any hate
the people who interacted with him
were cheerful and pleasant

sad opposing governments
with different ideologies
can’t be as cheerful and as pleasant
and just want to get along
as those accepting and friendly
nice chinese people

Priceless Love

On the dating app, the older single women
listed their financial requirements
averaging 100k a year, sometimes more.

It was as if they were selling themselves
for high price tags rather than seriously
looking for true love.

It was as if they were overpriced sales goods
priced far too high for serious considerations.

I was kinda glad I didn’t make the 100k a year
and felt it wouldn’t have been worth it anyway.
And honestly, I don’t think any of those women
were worth 100k a year, but I do feel some
women are worth more than money can buy.
And if you’re extremely lucky or richly blessed,
you might find one of those priceless women
and win their immeasurable, lasting love.

Dinner with the Hare Krishnas

Back in the seventies I was living in Cambridge Mass
when I and two friends saw a sign that read
free dinner with the Hare Krishnas.

Interested in exploring spiritual groups and beliefs,
myself and my friends attended the dinner.

The Krishnas were nice, likable people,
but one thing surprised me.

Like fundamentalist Christians,
they believed Krishna was the only way,
but instead of going to heaven
you went to Krishnaloka.

I was surprised by their dogma
since Hinduism is usually accepting
of other religions and spiritual paths.

Then the unexpected happened.
One of my friends had disappeared
for about ten minutes.

He returned with one of the Krishnas
with the two white lines on his forehead
just like the Krishnas had.

At first, I thought they’d got him.
It was like something out of the
invasion of the body snatcher’s movie.

But then my friend flashed a comical smile,
and I knew he was just going with the
experience for the fun of it
and that he hadn’t been recruited.

Although I was surprised by the Hare Krishna’s
belief that Krishna was the only or best way
to go to a heaven or become one with God,
I have to say their esteemed founder
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
seemed like a real deal saintly Spiritual Master.

A Dream of Stealing a Fish

Often I have these dreams
where I’ve done crazy things.
Last night I dreamed
I stole a fish form a coworker
right out of her office
in a fish bowl I brought to work.
And I hid the fishbowl in a closet
to sneak it out of the building
at an opportune moment
when she wouldn’t see
me swiping her fish.

When I work up alarmed,
that I I’d stolen a coworker’s fish,
a mini second later,
I realized I didn’t steal her fish
and that I hadn’t worked
in a year and never
worked in the office
or knew the woman
in my petty theft dream.
