Red Suede Shoes and a Woman

Had a dream that I had red suede shoes
and a woman liking them.

In the dream, I didn’t know her well,
and I wasn’t really attracted to her.

But she kind of forced her attention on me,
and she wanted to go see a new apartment

I just rented in another city. I started thinking maybe
it would be nice

to be with a woman for a while again; it’s been
a decade since I’ve gone anywhere with one.

But then she began dominating my time, planning
the day with things I didn’t want to do.

And I wasn’t looking forward to spending time with
her, but I agreed to it, so I was obligated.

I woke up and realized that even though it seemed real,
it was all just a dream, and I was so relieved.

She Enters the Pet Store and All the Pets Freak Out

What a scene from the 1942 movie, Cat People,
when the moment a woman and a man open
the door to a pet store, all the pets go crazy.

Moments earlier, the man had bought the
woman a cat that hissed at her as though
she were a monster, and you knew then
that she was

by the reaction of the cat who gets along
with the man. And when the woman says
cats don’t like her, you knew there was
far more to the cat’s reaction.

You know it even more when she steps into
the pet store to exchange the cat for
another pet and all the animals freak out with fear.

This told me her evil monster wattage was
high voltage, and that she was going to be
the dual persona of pretty woman and
evil cat monster in the movie.

Great scene. Great set up for diabolical things
to come later in the movie. Hats off to whomever
conjured up that frantic, frightful scene.

Cerberus, the Hound of Hades

Imagine a fierce dog with three heads
guarding the gates of Hades to prevent
doomed souls from escaping.

An imaginative creation of Greek mythology
that must have literally scared the hell out
of people who believe in Cerberus.

A dangerous dog with one head is scary
enough.

Imagine a snarling pit bull with three heads.
But truth be known, Cerberus seemed
even scarier than that.

Perhaps Behavior Is More Genetic Than Thought

Maybe the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree is
more predictive of behavior

in many, but not all, people more than known.

Or maybe genetics for the most part has little effect on
the outcome of a person’s behaviors and actions.

I have seen the like father like son in some people,
but, mercifully, I have seen the opposite in many
sons and daughters of evil people.

But if those in whom genetics seems to predispose
them to bad behaviors that result in prison time,
I have to wonder if they are totally responsible
for their antisocial behaviors –

as if they are compelled beyond their control to
to lead self destructive lives and reap the punitive
effects all of their lives.

Social Media Addiction

She became addicted to posting tidbits and
pictures of herself on social media

and consumed with seeing all the views
everyday, sometimes every hour.

Her obsession with social media took
over her entire life.

She thought about it day and night
and lived for the views.

Perhaps she had low self esteem
and all the attention was an

attempt to boost it and assuage
her inferior feelings.

An Old Abandoned Church in Wales with Paranormal Activity

An old abandoned church in the middle of
nowhere in Wales
Flat grave stores from the 1700 and 1800s
Stone walls, stone floors inside
Old wooden pews and benches
Unreadable writing etched on a wall
A single cross standing on a table
An ornate lecture not far from it
A dilapidated organ in a corner
A man named Dylan found signs of
Paranormal activity there
With scientific instruments
Signals, words, and sentences
From the unknown beyond
Maybe some of the deceased
Parishioners still linger there

Lurking Beneath the Sweet Surface

I thought she was the sweetest woman
I’d ever met

She had an angelic face and always
said nice things

But after I’d been involved with her
for a while

Her demons emerged out of the
dark corners of her soul

and life with her became an
insufferable hell

until I escaped with my mind and
soul barely intact

from her unending inferno of
hurtful words and mean comments

Monsoon

Lightning igniting night skies
Rain bursting from dark clouds
Wind howling
Trees awakening
Puddles emerging
The pitter patter of windows
assaulted by frantic rain drops
Umbrellas unfolding
Animals and birds hiding
Monsoon erupting

Airplane Crash Premonition

She had a feeling she shouldn’t get on the plane that
day. She had had a dream about a plane that crashed.

But she had to get to an important business meeting
too far away to drive to and get there on time.

Nervously, she boarded the plane and felt it was
going to crash every time it hit a jarring air pocket.

But the flight arrived safely at her destination, and
later that day she saw in the news a plane crashed

at the airport an hour after her flight had landed,
the airplane crash she had seen in her dream.

She Had a Way with Animals

She Had a Way with Animals

Paula had a certain magnetism with animals
dogs and cats always approached her on the
streets as if she were a long lost friend.

My dog, Bo, liked her more than me despite
the fact that I was the one who fed and housed
Bo and rescued him from a dog pound.

But the most amazing example of Paula’s
animal magnetism was when we when
camping in upstate New York and a family
of deer gathered around her as if she were
one of them.

But ran off when the saw me, and I don’t
even hunt. Foolish as it was, I felt a little
jealous of Paula’s gift with animals that
day.

But I was as drawn to her as the animals
and chided myself for being jealous of
Paula’s incredible charisma with animals.

It All Went by So Fast

When she reached ninety years of age,
she couldn’t believe how the years
went by so fast.

Highlights of her life had become
barely memories, as if they never
happened.

Many parts of her life she could no
longer remember. The decades had
erased them.

Now as death approaches, thinking
about what she remembers of her life,
she wonders what was the point of it all.

If Only I Could Believe In a Satan

If I could believe in a Satan, it would explain
why things like this happen:

Little girls in Thailand kidnapped or sold
into prostitution.

In rare cases, innocent children killed by a
parent or both parents.

Children sex trafficked in many countries.

Women raped and murdered.

Mass shootings of adults and children.

Terrorists bombing innocent people to death.

Thousands killed in wars.

Broken dreams and broken hearts all
over the world.

Mean as hell people.

But since I don’t believe in a Satan, I cannot
understand how a loving God, that I believe
exists, could ever allow all these evil things
to happen in this bedeviled world.

Although, I believe when I die, I’ll find out.

When I See a Beautiful Young Woman

Seeing a beautiful young woman at 80
is different for me.

Instead of seeing only her beauty,
I see her fast forwarded into the future
when her beauty,

like the transitory nature of life,
will be gone.

And I see the older woman in
the making within her.

If my vision were better, I would
see the skeleton, the death
beneath her beauty

and the fact that beauty,
like one’s life, is as if illusionary
when it is no more.

Ramana Maharshi, 1879-1950, to Me He Was the Real Deal

At age 16, sudden fear of death
Despite the fear
He went into the fear
Simulated Death
And Kaboom
He experienced
A Full blown awakening
of the eternal Self
Years later
People from all over the world
Sought Wisdom from him
And felt his palpable
Spiritual radiance
The life changing
cosmic energy
Radiating out of him
Charging seekers up
With profound Peace
And ineffable bliss

Unlike most of the
Gurus I read about
Whose lives I followed
Never heard or read of
Any sexual scandals
Connected to him
In my opinion
He seemed like a saint
The real deal
