Winter Versus Summer

After living through 80 winters
and 80 summers, I’ve come to
prefer winters. I like the challenges
of the cold compared to the challenges
of the heat. I like barely needing to use
any heat in winter, a survival thing with
more blankets more clothes, and I like
how invigorating the cold is compared
to how sluggish the heat can make me.
I feel you probably prefer the summers,
and there was a time I did too. But now
that I’m older, I long for the winters in
the hot days of the summers. Maybe I’m
an anomaly because at my age one’s
body can have less resistance to the
cold, but I like and embrace it, and I can’t
wait for winter and the cold to come again.

Barely a Memory

She broke your heart.
She made you feel like
you didn’t matter, like
your love was nothing.
Despite you were
always kind to her and
always a gentleman.
Despite you loved her
unconditionally and
would have died for
her and would have
loved her forever.
But here’s what you
should be aware of:
In time she’ll be barely
a memory, and the
hurt will fade away.
In other words, you
will finally be okay.

The Skeleton in His Closet

You know that expression,
skeleton in his closet?
Pierre had one of those.
Actually he had a dozen
skeletons in his closet.
They were in his old
house, the one he lived
in before he died, bony
remnants of dark deeds.
Now Pierre is one of them
buried in a cemetery in
Syracuse, New York, and
locals say they see his
ghost chased by a dozen
other ghosts when the
darkness reveals all sorts
of eerie phantasmical sights.

When Walter Was No Longer Walter

A friend named Walter claimed
he had been abducted by aliens,
probes, extractions, claims they
had created him.
I didn’t buy that aliens had created
Walter, but something about him
was totally off.
It was as if they had recreated him.
His voice, expressions, and body
movements were different.
He reminded me of a replicant
from the movie Blade Runner, a
human turned unhuman.
A day later, Walter vanished and
was never seen again.
I wondered if the aliens had taken
him again, maybe part of an
experiment they wanted to examine
on their planet.
Or maybe Walter had just gone mad,
and chose to disappear himself.
Whatever the case, Walter was no
longer the Walter I had known.

Goatman

Just heard of a cryptid named goatman
in the woods of Maryland,
seems to be no end to these unusual
creatures.
Head of a goat, body of a man who
came up with this, perhaps it was a
satyr come to life?
Some think it was a scientific experiment
gone wrong, some think it might have
been a vengeful goat farmer.
I don’t get the vengeful goat farmer.
Do they think he somehow morphed
into a hybrid goat?
Imagine if all these cryptids were real.
Alien teenagers having laughs sending
interdimensional creations into our
dimension just to mess with us.

The Unshakable Calm

I remember meditating for many hours
daily at meditation retreats in
serene, isolated locations.
I remember feeling like I’d attained
the desired unshakable calm,
blissed out from all the hours of
going deeper and deeper in the
depths of my ever expanding mind
only to have my illusionary
unshakable calm shattered back
in the real world with its inherent
daily stresses and strains.

And Justice for All

Justice for all doesn’t necessarily
mean equal justice for all.
Often you get the justice you can afford.
Poor man with only a public defender.
Rich man with a team of the best lawyers
money can buy.
Poor man has barely a prayer.
Rich man more equally blessed.
Moreover liars often get lighter sentences,
sweet plea deals less time in prison.
Honest defendants screwed, no plea deals,
longer prison sentences.
Justice for all unequal justice for many.

From Enemies to Allies

Two countries went to war.
They bombed the hell out of each other.
Each country encouraged their young men
to slaughter the young men of the other country.
Millions died, many civilian casualties, even children.
Cemeteries filled to capacity, so many senselessly dead.
Tears fell like tsunamis on both sides.
Just people who wanted to live peaceful lives.
Saddled with heartaches for the rest of their lives.
Years later, the countries became allies, like friends.
If only they could have gotten to that place without
all the carnage and the millions dead.

Opportunistic Politicians

To me, many politicians seem more like
opportunists than patriots.
They seem to have their own egos and
interests more in mind then the betterment
of their country.
Many don’t seem to give a damn about the
people they are supposed to represent.
Many seem to get rich as public servants,
which suggests a greater emphasis on
money than on public service.
And one has to wonder where that money
comes from and how it affects what interests
they get behind and promote.
Thank God some politicians are legitimate
public servants, true patriots working for the
betterment of the country and with genuine
concerns for the people they represent.

AI Girlfriends and AI Boyfriends

Many men and women are choosing AI
girlfriends and boyfriends over
relationships with real women and men.

You may think it’s weird, but I can see it.
Human to human relationships can be
disappointing. Many don’t work out.

Many men and women are tired of that.
Many want stability and hassle free
relationships, which Al substitutes
provide.

Always supportive, never insulting you,
never growing tired of you, never
cheating on you.

I think it comes down to peaceful,
loving relationships that are more
secure than many disappointing
human to human chaotic and
heartbreaking ones.

Mysteries of the Universe

A wizened sage I met in Sedona, Ca.
Told me I could learn the mysteries of the universe
On the back of a bubble gum wrapper.
A skeptic, I guffawed. He smiled an indulgent smile
And handed me a neatly wrapped piece of
Double Bubble Cosmic Gum. I said, this is it?

He smiled and said open it and read it.
I opened it and saw nothing on the back of the wrapper
Until telepathically the words and the wisdom
Lit up my previously unbelieving mind, and I saw it all.

Then the sage told me to eat the gum
I did but after the first chew all the wisdom
Was erased from my mind, and the sage vanished
And I wondered if it had been only a dream.

But when I got back to Greensboro, NC, the
Bubble gum wrapper was still in my pants pocket
I tried to read it but it was just a bubble gum wrapper
With no wisdom left inside of it.
But I saw it all in a dream that night and woke
Up one with the universe, cosmically conscious.

If You Die and There Is Nothing

It sounds terrifying to think of dying
and that being the end of you.
Even the thought of the obliteration,
that finality, is a terrifying prospect.
No more you. No more experiences.
All of you gone permanently forever.
But if I die and there is nothing, I am
in a place where I am good with it.
No more suffering. No more pain.
No more heartaches. No more
annoyances. No more diseases.
Just an end to all the tribulations
and the potential horrors in this life.

Toy Boat

He set his toy boat into the stream.
It flowed faster than he thought it would.
He tried to catch it but he couldn’t.
Soon it was out of his sight.
And he didn’t know where it went.
It flowed and flowed and flowed.
from the stream to the river to the
ocean it flowed and flowed and flowed.
That little toy boat somehow made
its way past sharks and other big fish
that could have chomped it to bits.
And it found its way into the hands
of a happy little boy in China.

Cryptid Sightings

So many alleged sightings of cryptids
all over the USA and the world.
Could all these people claiming the
sightings be mistaken or liars?
Yet there seems to be no proof
any of these cryptids exist?
Thus they are reduced to urban
legends and conspiracy theories.
But imagine if they were all real,
and the reason no proof was
found is because they are all
elusively interdimensional.
